Chockstones Vessel

another in the ‘Chockstones’ series

This vase, another in the ‘Chockstones’ series, has a fissure right through. The two sides are both separated and united by the 'Chockstones'; loose rocks and pebbles which get permanently wedged into cracks in crags, when, as 3-dimensional jigsaw pieces, they find their perfect fit. They are the origin of modern climbing protection, after early mountaineers threaded ropes around them to aid their safe passage upwards, and hopefully hold them in case of a fall.

This vessel was made after ‘Chockstones’ that is now in the V&A Museum’s collection.

2022 16 x 9 x 4cm Sterling silver

If you would like to find out more about the available collection pieces, I would be delighted to have an informal no-obligation chat.

“Why some blocks of stone, hacked into violent and tortured shapes, should so profoundly tranquilise the mind, I do not know.”
