Learning new skills is about more than the headline technique or process, tacit knowledge is accumulative, and confidence comes with it. Practice is an important element, but empathic guidance and support can accelerate development enormously. I’d love to help you expand your adventures in metalsmithing, and gain confidence as well as new skills.

I’m half Finnish, so I took the opportunity to study Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Design in Finland (Lahti Design Institute), with a final year in Birmingham at the School of Jewellery (BA Hons). My training in Finland was extraordinarily broad, technical and in depth, and I’ll be forever grateful to have benefitted from that solid foundation, and had such an expansive experience. However, as renowned educator Dorothy Hogg said, it takes a lifetime to become a jeweller and three lifetimes to become a silversmith! So, ever since I set up my business with support from the Princes Youth Business Trust in 1997, I have made a point of doing some serious skills training at least every two years. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing craftspeople, masterful practitioners, generous sharers of knowledge and skills.
