Cliff Face Sculptures

These works are about my appreciation of rock, particularly vertical faces.

When I moved to North Wales after graduation, I discovered Rock climbing and it became my second love. These works are about my appreciation of rock, particularly vertical faces. Climbing is an incredibly intimate way to experience the landscape, using every sense and nerve, feeling the surface to find enough purchase to move upwards over the surface, by fingertips and toe holds. When it works, it feels like a union.

When it doesn’t flow, there is a 3-dimensional puzzle to be solved, and a delicate balance between the mental game and physical power. I am most interested in Trad climbing, which involves wilder places, and leaves no trace of passing by, respecting the environment. It’s a deep exploration of the physical world, I seek to represent the feel of the landscape and my experience of it.

If you would like to find out more about the available collection pieces, Rauni would be delighted to have an informal no-obligation chat.
