“Being given tips for good posture and holding / using the hammers made a real difference also increasing control over the hammer.”
Testimonial Q&A – Fleur Grenier Pewtersmith

Following receiving an Arts Council DYCP award for raising pewter, although using pewter not silver I knew you would be able to teach and guide me through a variety of techniques that I could adapt. I also needed guidance with tools learning which was the right one for a specific process and adapting for a specific job as well as using them correctly so that over time I would use them correctly without causing injury.
-
Yes and yes! It clarified so many issues that I was having, initially when I started the project, I was unsure which stake to use with which hammer to achieve the desired outcome. How to hammer the metal so I could emulate the shapes and forms that I had designed. So often I was being directed by the metal as I just did not have the skills. I now feel in control and know once I have a design how to reproduce that, obviously still lots to learn and a lot more practise but now so many more opportunities have opened up due to me having the knowledge and skills.
-
Posture, whenever I have previously done any hammer work it has been for short periods of time so not really something I had considered. Starting this project initially with pain in my arms due to not having to anneal the pewter so can continuously work the metal. Being given tips for good posture and holding / using the hammers made a real difference also increasing control over the hammer.
Also Rest – resting myself and the pewter which I have now also found out is not only beneficial for me but the pewter as well.

Yes definitely, having that personal guidance for specific projects was invaluable, your teaching style was easy to follow and supportive. I was using pewter which is different to other metals, but you were able to transfer your skills and knowledge to ensure they were relevant for me and my work. Being able to ask questions and send images / videos outside of the session was really helpful as sometimes it was not until I tried things that issues arose. I would highly recommend as you were able to adapt and make the sessions specific to my needs.
Being able to watch the recording afterwards was also very useful.
