You can also find out more about how the commissioning process works here.

This cup was commissioned by the Goldsmiths’ Company as a gift to HMS Prince of Wales. A multifunctional decorative piece to be used in the life of the ship, for display, for presentation, for celebration, it was designed to be a standalone sculptural table centrepiece, or presented with one or both of the carved Welsh Slate stands, as a commemorative piece, with plaques for engraving.

The dramatic wave design is hammer chased, swirling upwards and around the cup, celebrating the oceans she navigates smoothly.

Engraved with ‘The Goldsmiths’ Cup’ the text flows smoothly through the design.

HMS Prince of Wales is the second of the new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers to be built for the UK, after the 65,000-tonne HMS Queen Elizabeth. They are the largest British warships ever constructed, and can be used for a range of military activity from war to providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

Dimensions 36cm high, 12cm diameter.
